1. Loads take longer to dry
If a normal load suddenly needs a second cycle, airflow restriction is one possibility. The dryer, load size, moisture sensor, vent length, bends, termination flap, and duct condition can all contribute.
2. Clothes or the laundry area feel unusually hot
A restricted exhaust path may hold heat and moisture around the appliance. Stop using the dryer if you notice burning odors, smoke, scorching, or another immediate safety concern, and have it evaluated.
3. Lint appears around connections
Lint around the dryer, wall connection, or exterior termination can point to a loose joint, damaged duct, missing seal, or airflow problem. Do not cover a damaged connection without correcting the cause.
4. Exterior airflow seems weak
With the dryer operating safely, the exterior flap should generally open and exhaust air. A stuck cover, animal screen, long run, crushed section, or buildup may reduce airflow. Roof exits require appropriate safe access.
5. The vent has not been serviced in a long time
Laundry volume, pets, vent length, roof routing, flexible ducting, and appliance type affect how quickly lint accumulates. Many households consider annual service, but the correct interval depends on the actual system and use.
6. The dryer shuts off or shows an airflow warning
Modern dryers may stop, overheat, or display a vent-related code when conditions are abnormal. Check the manufacturer guidance and arrange inspection of both the appliance and exhaust path when needed.
7. The duct is crushed, disconnected, or made from unsuitable material
A visibly damaged transition duct can trap lint or leak heat and moisture. Share photos of the dryer connection, route, and outside termination when requesting an estimate so repair options can be discussed.
